From Atlanta’s paper of record.
I hate to do this because I love newspapers. In fact, powerful, relevant newspapers in cities like Atlanta, Baltimore, and Detroit could be tremendous assets for places trying to repair decades of urban decay and corrupt political machinery. But I ramble.
I took this screenshot at 9:52pm, meaning that such an egregious typo had been on the AJC homepage for over 5 hours. Either no one reads it or no one cares. Or someone forgot to turn on the editing robots for the evening.
I’m not singling out the AJC for such carelessness. Most cities have seen sizable declines in substantive content and production quality of their local papers. David Simon even spent an entire season of The Wire elucidating the buffoonery of my hometown rag. And maybe I’m being too harsh, but instances like the above exacerbate an already damaged reputation.
Am I overracting or being too harsh?
harshness warranted, although typos are really the least of journalism’s problems at this point.
