the same article. it’s a great read, especially for those of us who live in “transitional neighborhoods” and have to hear our parents worry about our safety when “people who [are] murdered tended to be murdered by other people like them. Most of the killers were men and boys (a disturbing 93 percent—a number that, if we weren’t so accustomed to thinking of men as “naturally” violent, might strike us as the symptom of an alarming mass pathology), and most killed other men and boys. The majority of children were killed by a parent, and in more than half of all the cases, the victim and the killer knew each other. In over three fourths of the killings, the killer and the victim were of the same race, and less than 13 percent of the victims were white or Asian.”
i’m not trying to suggest a “perception of crime” scenario, but these are nice statistics to give to those who are scared of black people.
